The U.S. Department of Energy last month announced that it is allocating $16 million to provide resources to communities interested in learning more about consent-based siting and potentially hosting a consolidated interim storage facility for the nation’s spent nuclear fuel, such as the waste stored at the decommissioned San Onofre power plant.
